EU Seeks Input on Digital Product Passports

The European Commission is currently seeking public input on how Digital Product Passports should function, with a feedback period open from Nov 2024.

Table of Contents

The European Commission is gathering feedback on how Digital Product Passports (DPPs) should operate. This feedback period comes before finalizing a set of rules expected to take effect in late 2025.

Digital Product Passports aim to make it easier to access detailed digital information about a product's sustainability, circularity, and legal compliance.

This is part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. Companies selling certain products in the EU will need to create DPPs or work with authorized third-party providers to do so.

The EU is especially interested in hearing from these third-party service providers to refine a certification process that ensures consistent and reliable information in DPPs.

Feedback Period and Guidelines

The public can share their thoughts during a feedback period running from November 12 to December 10, 2024 (midnight Brussels time). All feedback will be published online and must follow specific guidelines for content.

You can submit your feedback on the European Commission website here.

By the end of this process, the EU plans to adopt a delegated act that establishes the rules for how DPP service providers will operate. This act is a crucial part of building an effective system for managing DPPs and advancing the EU’s broader goals for sustainable products. Don’t miss the chance to contribute!
