The Backbone of Circularity: DPP Insights from the Circular Textile Days 2025

Three key takeaways from Circular Textile Days 2025 on how Digital Product Passports enable circularity, unlock business value, and remain simple to implement.

Table of Contents

Tappr was proud to join the Circular Textile Days 2025 in the Netherlands, where fashion brands, manufacturers and sustainability leaders came together to turn circularity into action.

At our booth, we connected with brands, consultants, and regulators where one message stood out: Digital Product Passports are no longer optional, they’re the foundation for for circularity.

Beyond conversations, we also presented real cases of how DPPs unlock circularity opportunities such as recycling, one-click resale, and material traceability, while also delivering commercial value through new business models, customer engagement and resilience to regulatory change.

Read the summary below for the three key takeaways:

Takeaway #1: DPPs are the central link for circularity

One of the clearest messages of the event was that Digital Product Passports enable circularity by connecting all the data needed for reuse, repair, and recycling.

The EU has already confirmed this role in the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), where the DPP is recognized as the key enabler of ecodesign. By making product data traceable and accessible across the value chain, DPPs transform circularity from an ambition into a practical reality.

For brands, recyclers, and consumers, this means less friction and more opportunity. From one-click resale and integrated repair services to reliable recycling information, DPPs make circular models not just possible, but convenient.

Takeaway #2: Regulation drives adoption — value comes from connection

Legislation is pushing the textile industry to act. Under the ESPR, DPPs will be mandatory for textiles by 2027. Many attendees expressed concern about compliance complexity, but also excitement about the opportunities DPPs open up.

Beyond compliance, DPPs create tangible value:

  • New business models: Resale, repair, and take-back programs become easier to scale when product information is transparent and accessible.

  • Customer connection: DPPs keep brands connected with end users throughout the product lifecycle, generating insights that guide design, services, and product development.

  • Trust and loyalty: Transparency builds stronger customer relationships. When users access repair guidance or sustainability information, they feel supported, creating loyalty and repeat purchases.

Regulation sets the pace, but connection and convenience unlock the true value of DPPs.

The EU is boosting product sustainability with its new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This regulation broadens ecodesign requirements for many products, aiming to lessen environmental impact and ensure fair competition among EU businesses. It also sets the stage for global sustainability standards. Notably, the ESPR will introduce new rules for textiles in 2027.

Takeaway #3: It doesn’t have to be complicated

Adopting DPPs does not require perfection from day one. In fact, waiting poses the greater risk. A phased approach works best:

Start with what you have
The most effective path forward is to begin with the core data that is already available. Building on what exists avoids unnecessary complexity and makes the first steps more manageable.

Pilot and focus
From there, piloting a limited collection and concentrating on Tier 1–2 suppliers allows companies to test, learn, and refine before scaling more broadly. This approach ensures progress without overwhelming the organization.

Connect, don't reinvent
Equally important is connecting existing systems such as ERP or PLM rather than trying to reinvent processes from scratch. Leveraging what is already in place accelerates adoption and keeps costs in check.

Growing towards 2027
With this phased approach, DPPs can grow organically alongside other priorities. By the time the 2027 requirements take effect, businesses that start early will already have the structures, data, and confidence in place to move ahead smoothly.

Turning Conversations Into Action

For Tappr, Circular Textile Days 2025 was more than an inspiring event, it was validation. The conversations we had with brands, suppliers, and recyclers confirmed that the challenges we’ve been addressing are exactly the ones keeping the industry awake at night.

From the beginning we created our platform around three core principles:

  • Keeping it simple. Our seamless integrations ensure that Digital Product Passports fit naturally into existing workflows without creating new complexity.
  • Designing for real needs: We have always used a co-creative approach, listening to customers and the market and integrating their feedback. By building our software in-house we stay agile and keep it relevant.
  • Focus on connection and convenience. Beyond compliance, our solution transforms product data into actionable insights that power resale, repair, and recycling making circular models real and convenient.

Shaping What Comes Next

The Circular Textile Days 2025 showed that circularity is gaining real momentum. Tappr was proud to share how our Digital Product Passport solution helps turn that momentum into action and we’re excited to keep scaling it in the years ahead.
